How were you introduced to your instrument of choice?
Playing the Cello wasn’t my choice. I actually wanted to play the violin, but in Poland, where I grew up, there were lots of music schools and I had started playing when I was 10 years old. I was told I was too old to play the violin and so I was encouraged to play the Cello and that’s how it all started.
What has been your experience playing for the PSO?
I’ve always wanted to play with the orchestra. I’m also married to Michael the conductor and I love playing in concert with him. The sense of community and people working together is really what makes the PSO unique and enjoyable.
I am from Opole, Poland and currently live in Peterborough.
What are some of your personal achievements/education?
I finished my music education in Warsaw, Poland where my husband and I met as students and I received my Masters. I also worked with the Polish Orchestra.
What are some of your favorite playing styles/techniques/classical musicians/inspirations?
My favorite cellist is Mstislav Rostropovich, a famous Russian cellist. I like all styles of music not just classical. My main inspiration is Slavic music.
What are some of your hobbies/personal interests?
I enjoy gardening, baking and cooking. I am well known for my great desserts, torts and European desserts infused with liquors. My main interest was visual arts specifically painting, however I had to stop when I started focusing on my music career as doing both visual arts and music are too time consuming, so I had to choose one. I also enjoy playing piano. My husband and I do our best to find balance between professional life, personal life and raising a family.
