Rheanna was born in rural Ontario beginning violin lessons at the age of nine. Like a typical nine year old, she hated practicing. She’s now grateful to her parents for encouraging her to continue. Her father took her to symphony concerts and she credits this early exposure to fostering an interest in symphonic playing.
Classically trained, Rheanna decided to branch out into Celtic and fiddle music after high school. Her musical idols then were Ashley MacIsaac and our now local, Natalie MacMaster.
Peterborough became home for Rheanna seven years ago when she moved here to attend Trent University. She graduated with a joint Chemistry and Environmental Science degree.
The time restraints of university didn’t allow much time for violin practice but Rheanna dug out her dusty violin to audition for the PSO once she decided to make Peterborough her permanent home. She auditioned successfully. Her first concert with the symphony featured the music of the Eagles. “It was a fantastic introduction to the orchestra. I was blown away by the talent and very impressed that a town the size of Peterborough could support a group the size and calibre of the PSO.”
