Nina grew up in Etobicoke, Ontario, but has lived in Peterborough since 1982, when she came here to start her post secondary education at Trent University. She has moved from Peterborough for two short periods to pursue Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work degrees. Nina currently lives in Garden Hill, with her partner Martin Gladman (occasional percussionist for PSO).
Nina feels having a community orchestra in Peterborough means a richer community, a community connected to music history and appreciation, and a community that recognizes the value of music to human health and wellbeing.
Nina has been playing the Viola since grade 6, which she states is, “a long time ago!” She enjoys several genres of music including classical, Latin, Rock, and Jazz. Nina particularly enjoyed the symphony’s June “crossover concert” played with the Jeans and Classics band. Nina is also busy playing in a small band, "Anything Wheel Dew" where she plays bass guitar, an instrument her husband taught her.
Nina has been in the PSO for over 15 years. Her musical inspiration is her 86 year-old father who continues to play jazz trumpet in two bands. Her choice to play the viola comes from being an Introvert because she feels as a young person she could hide a little bit in the scheme of the orchestra layout!
Nina currently works as a full-time social worker in the Regional Dialysis Program at PRHC, and has a part-time private practice including a specialization in veterinary social work.
