 Katie Avery was born in Guelph, Ontario and started taking violin lessons at the local Suzuki School when she was four. Throughout her childhood, she was involved in the Guelph music scene through the Suzuki School, the Guelph Youth Singers, and various local theatre groups. After high school, she attend Laurier University at the faculty of music for one year, then transferred to the faculty of music at University of Toronto for the remaining 3 years of her degree. As well as graduating with honours from the music education program at U of T, Katie is also a certified Suzuki teacher.
In addition to classical music, Katie enjoys playing folk music of all kinds. She is currently working on an album with her band “Beneath the Ice” and expects to release it in November 2010. She also has a band with her family called “Relative Harmony” which has toured around Ontario and the United States.
