Masterclass by Nora Shulman, principal flutist with Toronto Symphony Orchestra

On Saturday, April 8, 2017, the Kawartha Youth Orchestra hosts the Nora Shulman Flute Masterclass at The Mount Community Centre‘s “The Gathering Room” (1545 Monaghan Rd., Peterborough) from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Four KYO musicians will perform for Nora in this ‘open lesson’. The cost to audit the class is $15 for adults, $5 for students. Please contact the KYO at info@thekyo.org for more information.

Nora was appointed principal flutist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 1986. Her principal teachers have included Louise Di Tullio, Luella Howard and Sheridan Stokes.

Nora has been an associate fellow at the Berkshire Music Center in Tanglewood, co-principal flute of the Aspen Chamber Symphony at the Aspen Music Festival and was a member of the Denver Symphony.

Nora has been a regular soloist with the Toronto Symphony and has appeared as soloist with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony, the CBC Vancouver Orchestra and the Denver Symphony. She has participated in numerous chamber music concerts including The Guelph Spring Festival, The Festival of Colours, The Faculty Artist Series and with Amici.

Nora has recorded for Naxos, CBC, Centre Disc Marquis Classics, and has collaborated on disc with Judy Loman, Karina Gauvin, Norbert Kraft and Catherine Robbin. She has taught at the Faculty of Music for twenty years. Former students hold positions with major orchestras in Canada, as well in the United States and Sweden.
