“Fresh Airs on Stoney”
There’s a new partnership on the lake – one that promises to enhance the sights and sounds on Stoney. Kawartha Land Trust and the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra have come together with the support of Viamede Resort to bring you an exciting new concert experience – “Fresh Airs on Stoney”.
This unique event will pair the ‘fresh’ natural ambiance of Stoney Lake and with exquisitely performed classical chamber music that will remind audiences of the popular “Festival of the Sound” in Parry Sound.
Deanna Guttman, Development Coordinator at Kawartha Land Trust hopes the beautiful backdrop for the performance will inspire Stoney residents to consider how they’ll protect the land they love. “For the last year we’ve been laying the groundwork for a connected wildlife corridor around the lake. This concert will be a great way for us to share the work we’ve done and meet new people who may be interested in getting involved”, says Guttman.
Both organizations are excited about the partnership and see their causes as a natural fit. “We look forward to sharing our love of music and nature with everyone at Fresh Airs, especially friends we haven’t met yet!” says PSO General Manager, Tori Owen. “Our excitement about performing is equal to the satisfaction we get at working with our new friends at Kawartha Land Trust and Viamede Resort. What better way to enjoy a summer day than by the lake?”
Symphony musicians will be presenting Beethoven’s Septet in Eb, Op. 20, which became so popular in Beethoven’s time that the enigmatic composer became infuriated! It has remained a perennial favourite with musicians and audiences ever since, and PSO’s Music Director Michael Newnham will offer his take on this special work with a “Meet the Maestro” pre-concert chat.
The concert is open to the public and will be followed by a cocktail reception. Admission is by donation only ($20 is recommended) and attendees can also enter a free draw to win symphony tickets, works of art and more! Proceeds will go toward protecting the land you love and supporting our region’s finest orchestra.
