SOLOIST: MAXIM BERNARD, piano
A rich and rousing evening of music opens with Mendelssohn’s “Italian” (called by critics “a perfect work”, and Canadian composer T. Patrick Carrabré’s Chase the Sun, described as a mix of colour, texture and rhythms with difficult ensemble curves that all conductors must navigate. The second half of the concert offers Brahms Brahms Concerto no. 1 in d minor (completed when Brahms was 25 yrs. old) featuring soloist Maxim Bernard, the prize-winning Quebec pianist fresh from his tutelage under the great Menahem Pressler. |
