Annual
School Concerts
Our two School Concerts,
geared to Our two School Concerts, geared to grade 4-6
students, are extremely popular. So popular, that we had
to move from Showplace to the Selwyn Outreach Centre to
increase our seating availability from 650 to 800 seats.
Even then, a number of some schools remain on our waiting
list due to a sold out shows, so teachers are encouraged
to book early! (Also for this reason, we do not refund
pre-purchased tickets if students can't make the show
but we will credit the school for the following year's
concerts)

New this past year was our
invitation to parents who home school.
One wrote us to say:
we were thrilled to
participate in this event. As much as we can play music in
our home, and put instruments into the hands of our children,
nothing compares with the powerful impact of a live symphony.
Thank you so much for making it possible for us to attend
this affordably. The conductor was entertaining, the material
was educational, and the music was fabulous. My six-year-old
said the music made her see the sky and feel the wind.
We look forward to next year.
Each school receives a music education package developed by
educators from Trent University, which also includes a CD.
Every year, the enthusiasm of the young people was heartwarming
and exciting for all of those in attendance. The children
laughed, clapped, and even gave standing ovations.

The
PSO Teaching Program
A number of young and mature
students are served by studio teachers from our orchestra. Nearly all orchestra
instruments can be learned through private instruction by our own, highly qualified
symphony musicians! Register now and enrich your own or your childs musical
skills and appreciation for classical music. Ability to read music beforehand
is not always necessary! Call the PSO office
at 742-1992 or via email at info@thepso.org
to find out more. |
Outreach
and Partnership
Plans continue for new kinds of youth outreach, with a special
emphasis on rural schools. The PSO is also developing partnerships
with businesses in the community to provide underprivileged
children with free concert tickets. If you have a business
that may find benefit with this opportunity, or if you are
an educator who wishes to become involved in outreach programming,
contact the PSO office at 742-1992
or via email at pso@trytel.net
with the word “outreach” in the subject line.
Birthday greetings!
Our Outreach concerts in Bobcaygeon on Mozarts 250th
birthday (January 27th, 2006) were a big hit with all the
students at Bobcaygeon Public School as you can see from the
great photos provided by David Page.
