BECOME A MUSICIAN
The Peterborough Symphony
Orchestra will hold auditions
for all Orchestral Instruments on September 12th this
season, starting at 7pm. All auditions are by
appointment only, and can be arranged by calling the
PSO office at 742-1992.
Auditioners are asked to prepare two contrasting pieces
(stand-alone works, orchestral excerpts or two movements
from a suite, sonata or concerto) that are to be performed
without accompaniment at the audition. Scales with various
articulations and sight-reading may also be required
for each 10-minute audition. Musicians are recommended
to bring their playing levels to approximately Gr. 6-8
of the Royal Conservatory grading system. Auditions
are usually located at Trinity United Church, 360 Reid
Street, the South Door entrance facing the municipal
parking lot.
| Under
the exceptional leadership of Music Director,
Michael Newnham, approximately sixty musicians
are committed annually to delivering a quality
series of concerts from October through May. The
season series consists of four main concerts and
one family matinee performed in the Peterborough
Showplace performance venue; two school concerts
in March and a Pops Crossover concert with Jeans
‘N Classics (Last year’s theme was
Pink Floyd).
Performers enjoy not only rehearsals
and concerts, they also have opportunities to
participate in coached sectionals, perform in
outreach events, and to be included on our “Musicians
for Hire” list for public inquiries about
weddings or other hired functions.
