Peterborough, ON – On Saturday, November 16th the Peterborough Symphony shares Scotland’s love affair with the violin as Concertmaster Tak Kwan features with Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 and Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony. This concert is also the launch of their Today and Forever Annual donor campaign, and they’re doing it with a Scottish flair!
“Of course we love the violin,” comments Board Chair Ian Crawford. “We even use a picture of one for our campaign thermometer board!” Crawford goes on to say that donors will enjoy a tartan ribbon to accessorize their outfit on Saturday night when they make a gift. “We’ve invited anyone in the audience to come decked out in tartans and kilts if they’ve got them to set the mood, including some friends with the Peterborough Scottish Country dancers.” Crawford goes on to say that this year’s goal is $50,000 and is confident they’ll reach it.
St Andrew’s Day falls on November 30, according to many Christian churches and is also bank holiday in Scotland. St Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland. To celebrate the day, he Scottish flag, or Saltire, is flown on public buildings in Scotland and there is a week of celebrations, concentrating on musical entertainment and traditional ceilidh dancing. The U.K. Shoppe will also help celebrate with some Scottish treats at the reception after the concert.
