On Saturday, May 27 the PSO will cap the organization’s 2016/17 concert season with a spectacular finale, The Planets, sponsored by Scotiabank. Experience a vivid musical adventure on terra firma through the elements of earth, water and fire. Then Holst’s The Planets will be your guide on a melodic tour of the galaxy, featuring the Women’s Chorus of the Peterborough Singers.

For this last concert of the PSO’s 50th anniversary season, violinist Janet Horne will step into the role of Concertmaster. She will rehearse with the PSO community players for the The Planets rehearsal and concert series, beginning April 12 and culminating with the May 27 performance.

Janet is the final of four candidates auditioning during the 2016/17 season for the position of Concertmaster. The successful candidate will be chosen this summer and announced ahead of the 2017/18 concert season.

Janet currently plays with the Esprit Orchestra of Toronto, but has also played with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Orchestra, Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, as Assistant Concertmaster of the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony Orchestra, Brantford Symphony, Symphony Nova Scotia, Thunder Bay Symphony, Windsor Symphony, National Ballet of Canada, Opera York, Hamilton Philharmonic, and Calgary Philharmonic.

Janet has worked with community orchestras including the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra, the Scarborough Philharmonic, the Cathedral Bluffs Orchestra and the Huronia Symphony. She is a faculty member at Algoma Music Camp and has served as string coach for Kitchener-Waterloo Youth Orchestra, Kawartha Youth Orchestra, and Mississauga Youth Orchestra.

Janet currently lives in Burlington with her husband, acclaimed composer and arranger Charles Cozens.

The Planets will not be presented at Showplace. This concert is scheduled at Emmanuel United Church East, formerly George Street United Church, at 534 George Street North. Preferred seating will be reserved for PSO subscribers. Single tickets are being sold as general admission, $38.50 for adults or $10 for students, and are available now from the Showplace box office.
