Peterborough, ON – On Saturday, December 7th, the Peterborough Symphony will be launching their biggest show yet, bringing together four of the region’s finest performing groups to celebrate the winter season with Home for the Holidays. What Music Director Michael Newnham calls “The biggest show this side of the North Pole” will boast over 150 performers on stage at George St. United Church.
This is the PSO’s first performance debut at George St. United Church in a real community celebration. Last season’s collaborators, Peterborough Pop Ensemble and Kawartha Youth Orchestra will join them onstage again, with a debut guest appearance by the Peterborough Children’s Chorus.
“Celebrating the wonderful songs of the season with the Peterborough Symphony, and working once again with Michael, is a highlight of the year for the Peterborough Pop Ensemble,” says Barb Monahan, director of the Pop Ensemble. “This will be an amazing musical evening!”
This annual concert is a gift to the community especially this year according to General Manager, Tori Owen. Their Community Ticketing program offers free tickets to local charities and their volunteers & clientele, and for their Home for the Holidays show they have set aside 200 seats sponsored by local businesses such as Swish, CIBC Wood Gundy and Darling Insurance. “71 people have already accepted this wonderful Christmas gift thanks to our sponsors! We’re inviting other business partners to ‘play Santa’ and join gift-giving” says Owen.
From Cahn’s catchy Let it Snow, Let it Snow to the classic Blue Danube Waltz this show is a great opportunity to get into the spirit of the season with family and friends. And don’t forget to warm up your voice for the carol sing finale! Tickets are available at the church door on concert night, and are available in advance from Showplace Box office at (705) 742-SHOW (7469) or online at www.showplace.org.
